Ancient Town

The 2.25 sq kilometers ancient town of Pingyao, an example of Han nationality, covered by the 10m in height wall was the financial and business center of the Shanxi Province in both Ming and Qing dynasties.

Shops open their doors to reveal modern cashier equipment perched on antique tabletops. Bustling about are bicycles, rickshaws and scooters. Here in Pingyao, modernity lives with centuries old relics.

Peaceful Funeral

I accidentally witnessed a local funeral in Pingyao during my last minutes in the town.

It seems like the person had a good life and a peaceful death because most of the people in the funeral were happy (in the good way) rather than sorrow. Around 20 local workers were hired to bring the huge coffin which is covered by plastic paper because of the pouring rain across the ancient town.

Pingyao Police

Just a fun blog post about the police in Pingyao. Many types of police flooded over the small town make me feel more insecure rather than safety. I haven’t seen so many police like this during the last 3 months in Thailand. Moreover, most of the Thai policemen are friendly and talk to you with smiles.

One day in Xian

I stayed one and a half day in Xian before leaving to Pingyao. It’s just another city of China on the way of developing. The air is so polluted because of the huge a mount of constructions not so far from the city center.

I got a trouble when shooting in a local market on Monday morning. While I was taking around the market, one guy stopped and tried to ask why I was taking photos in that market. Then after 10 minutes of arguing without any understanding between each other, all the people from the market gather around me with the searching eyes. They thought I am a spy and wanted me to delete every photos with fruits and food. I had no choice rather than follow their demand or I will be in a bigger trouble.

The highlight of the city is the 7 Sages hostel which is based on a very big classic Chinese row community houses.
